My Research Available Online!

Last semester, I wrote a conflict report on Somalia for my Politics of War and Peace class, which is part of the Peace and Justice Program at The University of San Francisco. My work, along with that of several of my peers, is now available on the program’s website at Peace & Justice Studies. If you’re interested, you can find it along the right hand column under my last name.

“We must treat Christianity with a great deal more intellectual respect than is our wont; we must treat it as being for the individual a matter primarily of thought and not of feeling. The consequences of such an attitude are too serious to be acceptable to everybody: for when the Christian faith is not only felt, but thought, it has practical results which may be inconvenient.” — T.S. Eliot, The Idea of a Christian Society

I picked up this book for 60 cents at a used bookstore in upstate New York last week. The street the bookstore is on also has a really old church built just a few years after Douglass’ narrative was published. It was pretty incredible to read the autobiography of an American slave who escaped and found his freedom in this same part of the country. I highly recommend it.

“Open your newspaper- any day of the week- and you will find a report from somewhere in the world of someone being imprisoned, tortured or executed because his opinions or religion are unacceptable… The newspaper reader feels a sickening sense of impotence. Yet if these feelings of disgust all over the world could be united into common action, something effective could be done.” — Peter Benenson, 1961
